Life Sciences Building Demolition for UBC

Introduction:  

When the University of British Columbia in Vancouver was undergoing significant construction upgrades to their Life Sciences Buildings, they needed to demolish several of the existing structures. As they intended to carry out the work while the university remained in full operation, they faced a significant challenge and needed specialized assistance.  

The Challenge: 

It is not easy to complete a demolition job of this size in the middle of an active university campus and minimize the impact on the students, faculty, and general university operations. This kind of work generates a significant amount of dust, vibration, and noise as it is carried out. All of this care and consideration not only influences concern for safety but also scheduling and overall costs. The abatement and demolition of these buildings at UBC posed a huge challenge. 

The Solution: 

UBC trusted Pacific Demolition with this complex and sensitive task. Our crews used engineered plans to carefully separate and deconstruct the buildings in a manner and sequence that minimized dust, noise and vibration impacts to the surrounding area. A combination of manual labour and mechanical equipment were used to complete the work safely and efficiently.
