Introduction:
To meet the rising demand for clean energy in British Columbia, Innergex Renewable Energy built a run-of-river power plant at Tretheway Creek, located on the northwest shore of Harrison Lake, approximately 50 kilometers north of Harrison Hot Springs, B.C.
The facility is on the traditional territory of Sts’ailes and Douglas First Nation, and represents a collaboration between First Nations, the Province, and the private sector. Numerous consultants and contractors were involved in the complex project, but when Innergex needed a transformer to be delivered to the remote site, they called Apex.
The Challenge:
In addition to being constructed in a very remote location, the site of the power plant was also on very uneven ground and at an elevation of 260 meters. Since the roads to the location were not suitable for over-dimensional loads, we knew that we would need to transport the transformer by water for at least a portion of the trip.
The Solution:
Innergex trusted Apex with this highly specialized water delivery. Our crew carefully planned, scheduled, and implemented the procedure using our specialized equipment and unique skillset.
We utilized a barge to transport the transformer on Harrison Lake for the portion of the trip that roads were unsuitable. Our specialized jack and slide systems were used to move the transformer into place.
The Outcome:
Innergex got their new transformer delivered safely and efficiently to the remote power plant at Tretheway Creek, so that their renewable energy project could continue to function. Once again, our expertise and specialized equipment were utilized to perform a unique procedure for a valued customer.
